I was challenged to create something out of the box. Out of my normal comfort zone. Well, I'll tell you....at first I was scared. What do I do? Where do I start? What should I draw? I pondered it for a while and thought about a fabulous trip my husband and I went on back in 2007. We visited Ireland, rented a car, and drove on the wrong side of the road from one side of the country to the other. (Maaaybe slightly sideswiping a parked car at one point, but that's a whole other story) It was one of the best experiences of my life! Usually when you go on vacation, it's very 'touristy' and this time we got off the beaten path and hung with the locals. As we were driving through these small, gorgeous towns, I noticed how the doors on the homes were all so different. I kept taking pictures of them and when we got home, our friends and family were like - "why are there so many doors?" Apparently, I was the only one that saw the beauty in them.
Thinking back on that trip and those memories I thought, "I can draw doors!" And so I did. A lot of them. And over and over. Each one has its own unique details and beauty. Here is the pattern that I wound up with as well as some coordinating pieces made from the door details. I mocked them up as a set of tea towels that you would purchase to hang in your kitchen. Would you hang them in your kitchen? I'm so glad I decided to step out of that box, because in the end it's always worth the reward!
