New Collection

Happy Friday! I CANNOT believe that it is already Labor Day weekend and summer is officially winding down. Man, it went by fast! Always does. :) I've been working on this collection, it was inspired by my summer vacation. My family and I went up to Traverse City, Michigan where the water is clear as can be and the sunsets are unbelievable. I decided to call it Solstice and it is available for licensing or purchase. Surtex 2016 Recap

All I have to say is WOW. Surtex was absolutely amazing! Ok, that's really not all I have to say. There's lots to recap so I'll start from the beginning, here goes! I arrived on Friday afternoon and called the other members of Four Corners to find out where they were. I walked over to the Javits to meet them...FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME! It was so fun! I turned the corner and there they all were, (minus Jane, she couldn't make the trip) Emma, Jocelyn, Julie, Kevin and Pippa. It was SO exciting and fun to meet them, there were huge hugs all around, it was fantastic! Sure, we had Skyped and talked for over a year but meeting in person is just different, you know?! And everyone was better than I had could have ever imagined! You know when you just "click" with certain people, well these were my people! Here we are in our bare booth on Friday.

On Saturday, we got our booth set up, which took almost the whole day. We really debated over all of the small details and I'm so glad we did because we got so much GREAT feedback on our booth. More to come on that later. Then we ventured over to Blueprint to go meet Pippa and walk around the show. She won the Young Designer's Competition and was exhibiting there. Her booth looked amazing, she had so much really good work, we were so proud!

Then it was show day! Sunday morning came around really fast and we had a solid, steady stream of people all day. We weren't sure what to expect since it was our first show, but we saw and chatted with SO many great people. The thing about Surtex is making connections. Talking to people, networking, not necessarily selling your patterns, but there was some of that happening, too! We were excited on Sunday night thinking that we had a good start to the show and then Monday came. First, here's a picture of our final booth with all of the products, banners, books, giveaways, etc.

So as I mentioned...Monday came. It was in-sane! Monday was by far the busiest day for the show in general based on feedback from other artists, including ourselves. The traffic was heavy. We were all talking to different clients at the same time. There were random staples on the tables, papers on the floor, we were like - what just happened?! It was truly amazing! We got some really great contacts and leads and the day flew by! On Monday night after the show, Surtex puts on a cocktail hour in the atrium of the Javits Center. It was really nice to just relax for a bit and chat with other exhibitors. Here's a picture of us. Remember that I said earlier that we had great feedback on our booth? So many companies and artists that stopped by said how great the booth was. How it all coordinated so well even though each one of us has our own design style. We worked really hard to make it cohesive so we were relieved to hear such great feedback! And to take the cake, at the cocktail hour, Jennifer Nelson told us we should win an award for best new booth! That was awesome!!! We chatted with the artists that she represents as well as many of the artists from Brenda Manley's agency, My Favorite Things. Brenda was equally as amazing and complimentary. Hearing such great feedback from these seasoned artists meant so much to us!

Tuesday was the last day of the show and even though the traffic was slower, it was solid. Again, got lots of really good leads and interest in our designs. Overall, I don't think we could have asked for a better first show. We were all so happy with the results. We spent Wednesday morning going through all of our leads and figuring out who was going to contact who before we had to go our separate ways. Here's the last of our group pictures before we said goodbye, looking a little bit more relaxed, but tired! Thanks for such a great show, Surtex!

Surtex, Here I Come!

It's been months of drawing, creating, making patterns, marketing, and more, but it's finally here! Surtex is May 15-17, 2016 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City and I'll be exhibiting my fresh, sophisticated florals and hand drawn geometrics in Booth 229 with Four Corners Art Collective. This is my first show exhibiting and I'll tell you...it's a lot of work! A. LOT. Not only do you have to create a bagillion pieces of art to show, but then you have to create and design your booth, your giveaways, press kits, stickers, mailers, promotional items, and then on top of that, you have to market yourself! It's a lot of hard work but I can honestly say that I loved every second of it. I've included a few sneak peeks of the patterns I'll be showing and I'm super proud of all that I've accomplished. I hope you enjoy the preview and please stop by Booth 229 if you're going to the show!
